Launching Consciousness-Based Education in Cambodia

Partnership between GUSP, Maharishi Foundation for World Peace Cambodia & University of Management and Economics

On 27 September 2025, the Global Union of Scientists for Peace (GUSP) and the Maharishi Foundation for World Peace, Cambodia, established a partnership with the University of Management and Economics (UME) to introduce Maharishi’s Science and Technology of Consciousness into the university curriculum.

This historic collaboration marks a new step in bringing Consciousness-Based Education (CBE) to Cambodia — an evidence-based approach proven to unfold the full potential of students and teachers through the daily practice of Transcendental Meditation (TM), a simple and natural technique practiced for 20 minutes each morning and evening.

What Is Consciousness-Based Education?

Developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and successfully implemented at Maharishi International University (MIU, USA), Consciousness-Based Education holds that the development of consciousness is the foundation of all learning.

While traditional education focuses mainly on what students study, CBE emphasizes the growth of the student themselves — the knower — by systematically developing their consciousness.

Through the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation, students experience a unique state of restful alertness, allowing the mind to settle inward to its most silent and powerful level — the field of pure consciousness, the source of all creativity and intelligence.

Scientific research has shown that this practice reduces stress, enhances learning ability, increases creativity, and promotes total brain development.

By uniting inner experience with outer knowledge, CBE helps students grow in wisdom, happiness, and success while fostering a more peaceful and harmonious society.

The Vision for Cambodia

Through this partnership, the University of Management and Economics joins a growing international movement of universities integrating consciousness at the heart of education. The program will begin with training for students, faculty, and staff, allowing them to experience the benefits of Transcendental Meditation and the deeper understanding of Maharishi’s Science and Technology of Consciousness.

This initiative represents a powerful step toward awakening the inner potential of Cambodia’s young generation — nurturing leaders who are calm, creative, compassionate, and capable of contributing to lasting national progress and peace.
